Petrified tree trunk
Some 200 million years ago, before the time of the giant reptiles, Arizona was covered with a huge tropical rainforest.
The trees were sometimes 60 meters high and 10 meters thick! Many of the trunks are preserved as fossils. Erosion by wind and water, have exposed them again.
Sometimes the wood structure in detail is there.
The colors are caused by deposits of iron (red, yellow and brown), cobalt (blue), chromium (green), manganese and carbon (...

Concrete Day and ‘ Betondag’ a huge hit, both in Belgium and the Netherlands!
October 21st2010 – Brussels. The 30eConcrete Day is a fact. A little smaller than in previous years, but no less interesting. The E-concrete theme perfectly suits the image of the future.
Also striking was the amount of GREEN! Durability is high in esteem nowadays, in the world of concrete as well.

How do you capture history in a public space? Nothing is more permanent than the past, but nothing is more fleeting than the present and more uncertain than the future. The answer is found at the Vlaardingen Veerplein. There is stretched out, from baseboard to baseboard, the New Vlaardingen Carpet. Lied down to stay there, laid down with a lot of dedication and a lot of terrazzo. [quote Mebest August September ‘10]

The city center of Geleen has been renewed completely. Geleen used to be a popular city for shopping purposes, modern and easily accessible. Unfortunately, this function has degraded. The center lost its attractive force. The urban restructuring and redesign have reversed this process.
The concrete paving of this new center consists of five shades of grey. This gradation in paving material, determines the image of the center in a light-hearted way.

In the Netherlands, bicycle paths are usually brick red. This red color is suggestive of nature (people are used to bicycle paths and bicycle strips being red) and has no legal basis.
In the municipality of Sittard-Geleen red pavers have been used, manufactured by Facade Beton Maastricht BV for the construction of the Rijksweg Boulevard. The pigment used for this is Bayferrox®red 130.

Who thinks of Maastricht thinks of the Sint Janstoren. The colourful reddish tower rises high above the rooftops of the city. This was nevertheless not always the case; the reddish red from a decade ago had faded out and there were plenty of grey parts. This is why the Sint Janstoren was rinsed about a year ago; and now the reddish pride of Maastricht once again towers above all other buildings. This “rinse” consisted of the Scholz colour pigments, namely Bayferrox® 120 M...
