How do you capture history in a public space? Nothing is more permanent than the past, but nothing is more fleeting than the present and more uncertain than the future. The answer is found at the Vlaardingen Veerplein. There is stretched out, from baseboard to baseboard, the New Vlaardingen Carpet. Lied down to stay there, laid down with a lot of dedication and a lot of terrazzo. [quote Mebest August September ‘10]
The Veerplein in Vlaardingen was ready for a makeover. For this purpose a number of architects were put to work during a competition. They made models which were judged first by the jury and then by the citizens of Vlaardingen. More than 3000 persons voted for the New Vlaardingen Veerplein, a design from the 100% Vlaardingen team Geluk Treumiet Architecten, artist Wilma Kuil and terrazzo works C. Tomaello B.V.
The diamond with pictures is created in terrazzo and mosaic. A work of art realised by designers and of course the terrazzo specialists of Tomaello. Approximately a hundred of combinations of various stone colours en cement pastes were incorporated. All the colours were purchased from Scholz Benelux B.V. The blue colour for instance, is Heucodur blue 2R.
All the pieces fit together with Scholz Benelux B.V.!
