Daylight is reflected by the functional terrazzo floor.
Just outside of Eindhoven, not far from the busy arterial road Highway A2, is the technology centre of (amongst others) the electronic concern Philips, named the “Hightech Campus”.
Exit 32 immediately directs to the Hightech Campus. Once arrived at these grounds, a grand atrium with a large glass roof and a marvellous terrazzo floor can be found between the U- and the L-building. An atrium is nothing new, in Roman times houses were designed with an atrium. It functions as a central meeting place inside a building. This is a description that surely fits the atrium at the High Tech Campus. “Juurlink en Geluk Stedenbouw and Landschap BNS bv” has planned the complete design of the outdoor grounds and has also decided that the floor of the atrium was to be made in terrazzo. A terrazzo floor that, apart from its charming radiance, also appears to be very functional.
The atrium is multifunctional; it is also used by cyclists because the entrance to the bicycle storage is situated here. This does not really affect the floor, for a terrazzo floor is durable and its usage is versatile. Cleaning and maintenance of a terrazzo floor is simple and therefore these costs are low. Eterno Terrazzo has produced this floor of 748 m2 in commission of ‘Van Straten Bouw en Vastgoed’ in Eindhoven. In order to obtain the beautiful deep black colour, Bayferrox® 360 iron oxide black was used. The Eterno Terrazzo floor gives a beautiful reflection of the daylight, which falls in through the large glass facades and turns the atrium into a warm and comfortable space.
