CONCRETE CANOE RACE 2010

Concrete Canoe Competition 2010 in Utrecht

Scholz is sponsor of BetonBrouwers of the University of Twente. Each year this group of enthusiastic Civil Engineering students participates in the Concrete Canoe Competition. The regulations are simple;  make a canoe of concrete and make sure its stiffness is derived from the concrete, only a limited amount of reinforcement is allowed and this should not have any stiffness in itself. Subsequently a track of 200 or 400 meters has to be followed with these canoes. The fastest participants can win prices; next to the speed competition, there are also prices for canoe weight, construction and beauty. At this occasion, the BetonBrouwers will be represented with 4 (white) canoes. Scholz has delivered white pigment for the realization of the white color.

The race was held in Utrecht during the weekend of 4-6 June. On Friday afternoon the inspection of the canoes started, followed by  the naval review . On Saturday morning  the race started. The qualifying rounds were held at the Catherijnesingel in Utrecht, the finals at the Oude Gracht. More details on this event are found at www.betonkanorace2010.nl; including more pictures.
