Brown cycle path in the surroundings of Zoutleeuw (Liema NV)
When ready mixed concrete is used for laying a cycle path, the colour is often red. However, every now and again, it is decided to pave cycle paths in a different colour. A good example of this is the current project in the surroundings of Zoutleeuw (Belgium). The light brown colour will soon form a splendid contrast with the environment.
The brown oxide pigment is mixed into each cubic metre of concrete to be used with the great advantage that the cycle path will remain 'colourfast' over the course of time. Sunlight, ultraviolet rays, frost and wear and tear through use will have no impact on the colour.
The project is being realised by road construction firm, Liema NV. This contractor of earth, road and sewer works has its own concrete plant with crushing installation and recycling centre. All demolition materials can therefore be processed and reused. The commissioning authority is the local authority of Zoutleeuw (Belgium).
What makes this current project special is the selection of a light brown pigment. The Bayferrox® Brown Oxide 655 will ensure that the cycle path will blend into the landscape, which will preserve the rural character of the environment.
The Bayferrox® Brown Oxide 655 is alkaline-based, light and weather resistant and as such is extremely suitable for use in concrete. The pigment meets the DIN EN 12878 standard for building materials. It is available in powder form: Bayferrox® Brown Oxide 655; granule: Bayferrox® Brown Oxide 655NG; and liquid: Brown Oxide HS 655 F-BB.
