“DE ELEMENTEN” SPIJKENISSE

Rokade (Castling) – a special move during chess, a special move in the colour play!

The council committee Centre has agreed to the definite design of the second tower in the plan “De Elementen” (“The Elements”) in Spijkenisse. This tower, named ‘Rokade’ (‘Castling’), is designed by architect Rien de Ruiter of the architectural firm Klunder Architecten uit Rotterdam. Rokade has 33 floors and is 113 metres high. The complex contains six floors which will contain rental apartments. A tower will be placed on top, which will visually consist of two parts, a darker and a lighter part. The high-rise building will contain apartments that will be sold. Because of the design, nearly all apartments have a view on the river.

The tower
Rokade is being built by Ballast Nedam Bouw West.
De Elementen, made by Hibex BV, are cast against a structure matrix. The white elements are cast against a rubber matrix with a wave pattern and the black elements with a very deep cannelure.

Name ‘Rokade’
The appearance of a dark and a light part was the inspiration for the name ‘Rokade’ (‘Castling’). Black and white, together with a tower(building) are easily associated with chess, just as the use of Bayferrox® Iron oxide black 360 is a strategic move during the fabrication of the elements!
